Week 2

The four R’s respect, reciprocity, relevance and reflection.
“Reflection is needed to provide context and meaning”
Purpose of the article is to remind future teachers that simply filling the educational cup so the student can retain it until the quiz and then simply dump all the information out of the cup on to the answer sheet is not the solution. It’s not enough that students receive A’s; it is more important that they gain common knowledge and understanding of life around them to help the next generation. With the help of Service Learning, we as students are supposed to be learning something that could never be learned in a book: compassion, understanding; ignorance isn’t bliss it’s avoidance. Because I am going into the education field I often think about how every experience could and would make me a better educator, but sometimes I forget that everyone in my classes are not education majors and that things like understanding multiculturalism and service learning opportunities are good for everyone. It will help anyone grow as a person. I just want to help people, I want to give kids a sanctuary, somewhere they can feel safe and confident. That’s why I picked the Boys and Girls club and that’s why I guess I choose to teach and in a way I guess that is why I took this class. If you understand yourself and the world around you will begin to understand the kids you will teach.
